Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has announced the appointment of cybersecurity veteran David Damato as the company’s new Chief Security Officer (CSO).

Gemini will benefit from Damato’s extensive experience of security leadership of more than 20 years. Damato joins Gemini from Tanium, a California-based privately held endpoint security and systems management company, where he built and led a cybersecurity team that engineered unique security solutions to help protect government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and banks around the world.

Prior to Tanium, he was an early member of the leadership team at cybersecurity firm Mandiant, which was later acquired by FireEye.

“Gemini has been built and operated with a security-first mentality from day one. Security is the bedrock of our culture and one of Gemini’s four pillars along with Product, Licensing, and Compliance... we were the first exchange and custodian in the world to complete a SOC2 Type I examination and allow you to secure your account using hardware security keys via WebAuthn,” said Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder and CEO of Gemini.

“We are excited for Dave to continue our Security Team’s tradition of building and pioneering world-class security solutions to secure the future of money.”

Meanwhile, cryptocurrency custodian BitGo hired Pete Najarian, who served as Senior Vice President of Institutions at Xapo, as its Chief Revenue Officer.
