SilkBank has added Tether’s USDT purchases and transfers to its Silk mobile banking app, giving customers in Georgia access to crypto transactions alongside their fiat accounts.

Customers can buy and sell crypto through a bank account or card. The service supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB, XRP and Gram, while a limited-time promotion offers 0% commission.

SilkBank became the first bank in Georgia to introduce native cryptocurrency trading through a regulated mobile banking app. SilkApp had more than 500,000 downloads and more than 200,000 Tier II users as of Dec. 31, 2025.

“The rapid growth of SilkApp from a niche digital channel to a platform with more than 200,000 customers confirms the strength of our digital-first strategy and the growing demand for modern, mobile-led banking in Georgia,” Silk Bank CEO Aleksi Khoroshvili said.

The launch comes as Georgia pursues stablecoin infrastructure. Tether and the Georgian government announced plans on May 25, 2026, to launch GEL₮, a stablecoin representing the Georgian lari.

Tether said further details on the structure, rollout and regulatory implementation would be announced later.

“Stablecoins are no longer a niche financial instrument. They are becoming part of the infrastructure layer for global finance,” Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said.

SilkBank is developing digital-asset infrastructure for customers in Georgia and selected international markets.
