BitMEX ended exchange trading at midnight ET (04:00 UTC) on Sept. 23, but users can still access their accounts and withdraw available funds from the platform.

The shutdown ended BitMEX’s exchange services while leaving account access open for wallet balances, transaction histories and withdrawal requests. Fully verified users who leave funds on the platform face a monthly account fee calculated at 1% annually or $50, whichever is greater, until the balance is withdrawn.

The charge comes directly from the remaining balance. Users do not owe additional money after an account balance reaches zero.

Withdrawals may still undergo additional reviews and face network restrictions or delays tied to blockchain confirmations. BitMEX also warned users about phishing attempts promising faster withdrawals and said there is no priority withdrawal service.

The exchange announced the wind-down July 23 after a strategic review by the board of HDR Global Trading Limited, its owner and operator. BitMEX halted new registrations after the announcement and later restricted users from opening new positions. Launched in 2014, the exchange became known for perpetual swaps, derivatives contracts without expiration dates.
