> The €2.19-per-liter diesel and €1.99-per-liter petrol caps begin Sept. 28 and will initially last 30 days, with a possible extension through Dec. 31, 2026.

Eni will cap diesel and petrol prices at its Enilive stations in Italy starting Monday, Sept. 28, limiting pump prices as geopolitical disruptions and reduced European refining capacity keep refined-fuel costs elevated.

The cap will set diesel at no more than €2.19 per liter and petrol at €1.99 per liter. The measure will initially remain in place for 30 days and may continue through Dec. 31, 2026, depending on market and supply conditions.

The cap applies to fuel sold through the Enilive network in Italy and is linked to excise-tax relief currently in effect.

European refining capacity has tightened after nearly 30 refineries closed over the past 15 years. Geopolitical crises have also constrained international supplies of refined products, adding pressure to fuel markets and household and business costs.

Eni has absorbed part of higher international fuel costs since March 2026 instead of passing the full increase through to recommended prices. The company will maintain the price cap while Enilive operates biorefineries in Venice and Gela and develops and transforms its Livorno site.

The move comes ahead of Italy’s Oct. 8 meeting with domestic refiners, which will assess whether producers can increase gasoline, diesel and other petroleum-product output as supply risks intensify.
