> A potential second site near Dallas could include six advanced wafer fabs, but TSMC has not confirmed the project, investment amount, schedule or technology plans.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is reportedly evaluating a second U.S. manufacturing site near Dallas, Texas, potentially expanding its domestic footprint beyond the company’s confirmed Arizona advanced-chip expansion.

Dallas is considered the leading location for the potential project, which could include six advanced wafer fabs. TSMC has not confirmed the Texas site, the number of fabs, an investment amount, a construction schedule or the technologies that would be produced there.

The company’s confirmed Arizona expansion includes six advanced wafer fabs, two advanced-packaging facilities and a research and development center. TSMC’s first Arizona fab began volume production of 4-nanometer technology in the fourth quarter of 2024, while construction of its second facility has been completed and installation of systems for 3-nanometer and more advanced technologies is underway.

TSMC announced in March 2025 that it planned to invest $165 billion in the United States, adding $100 billion to an earlier $65 billion commitment. Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei said the expansion followed the success of the company’s first Arizona fab.

“With the success of our first fab in Arizona, along with needed government support and strong customer partnerships, we intend to expand our U.S. semiconductor manufacturing investment by an additional $100 billion, bringing our total planned investment to $165 billion,” Wei said.

TSMC’s board has approved approximately $31.2843 billion in capital appropriations for advanced-technology capacity, fab construction and facility systems, along with a capital injection of up to $20 billion for TSMC Arizona.

A separate $265 billion figure differs from the company’s announced U.S. investment total of $165 billion. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has said it approved $44 billion in TSMC U.S. investments since December 2020.

TSMC’s disclosed U.S. operations also include a wafer fab in Camas, Washington, and design-service centers in Austin, Texas, and San Jose, California. Its public U.S. plans do not identify a Texas wafer-fab site, leaving the reported Dallas project without a confirmed investment plan or construction timetable.
