> The new laboratory will examine blockchain-based systems for business applications while keeping experiments separate from the bank’s core systems.

Morgan Stanley has established a digital-assets laboratory to test stablecoins, tokenization and decentralized finance applications as the bank evaluates blockchain-based systems for business use.

The laboratory will examine how the technologies could apply across Morgan Stanley’s operations. The effort is part of the bank’s existing innovation laboratory network, which gives employees dedicated facilities to explore emerging technologies.

The setup allows the bank to test digital-asset infrastructure separately from its core systems, limiting operational risk during experimentation. The laboratory’s work covers multiple areas of blockchain technology rather than a single product or asset.

Morgan Stanley’s move places stablecoins, tokenized assets and DeFi among the technologies being evaluated inside a major Wall Street bank’s innovation framework.
