Meta has hired MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to lead its new enterprise AI business, sending MongoDB shares down 18.46% at Tuesday’s close after an intraday decline of about 21%.

Meta announced the Meta Enterprise Platform on Sept. 28, naming Desai as its head and placing him under CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The company is positioning enterprise AI as a major business pillar beyond advertising.

The initial product lineup includes Muse agents, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. Meta plans to make the tools available to businesses and developers as it expands its use of artificial intelligence beyond consumer products.

Desai joined MongoDB as CEO 11 months ago. Before that, he spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, where he became president and chief operating officer, and led product and engineering at Cloudflare.

Meta is entering a market that includes established cloud and enterprise technology providers as well as AI companies. Its existing base of advertisers and business customers provides a potential sales channel, but the new platform must still win enterprise adoption.
