> Hiring accelerated from a revised 36,000-job increase in August and exceeded the 68,000 expected gain, offering a fresh labor-market signal for rate expectations.

Private employers added 90,000 jobs in September, accelerating from a revised 36,000-job gain in August and exceeding the 68,000 increase expected by economists, giving markets a stronger labor signal ahead of Friday’s employment report.

Service providers accounted for 59,000 of the new positions, while goods-producing companies added 31,000. Education and health services led sector gains with 55,000 hires, followed by leisure and hospitality with 22,000, manufacturing with 17,000 and construction with 15,000.

Hiring was uneven. Financial activities cut 16,000 jobs, professional and business services lost 11,000, and natural resources and mining shed 1,000. Companies with 50 to 499 employees added 54,000 positions, while the Northeast posted the largest regional gain at 56,000.

Base pay increased 3.2% from a year earlier, while gross pay rose 4.7%. The stronger hiring figure may influence expectations for interest rates and broader financial markets, including crypto assets, as investors assess the labor market’s resilience.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to release the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report Friday. Expectations call for 84,000 new jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.1%.
