> Eligible overseas visitors can pay at participating merchants through HIVEX, with crypto converted to Japanese yen at the time of payment.

PayPay now accepts Binance Pay payments from eligible overseas visitors at participating merchants across Japan, expanding crypto spending through a QR-payment network without requiring merchants to add a separate integration.

The service launched Sept. 30, 2026, through HIVEX, a cross-border payment network developed by TBCASoft. Customers can scan a merchant-presented QR code or display a payment code for the merchant to scan.

Binance Pay converts the customer’s crypto to Japanese yen at the time of payment, and PayPay merchants receive settlement in yen. The service covers participating restaurants, retailers, accommodations, entertainment venues and other merchants nationwide.

The feature is limited to tourists visiting Japan. Users must complete identity verification, and Japan residents using Binance Japan are excluded from the service. PayPay Money-only merchants and online payment merchants are also excluded from HIVEX.

PayPay’s merchant infrastructure connects with HIVEX, allowing overseas payment applications to work across participating stores through existing QR-payment rails. PayPay is widely used by Japanese convenience stores, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping centers and local retailers.

Binance Pay had approximately 48 million users across more than 100 countries and regions as of June 1, 2026, excluding Binance Japan users residing in Japan. Binance is offering eligible visitors a limited-time 10% instant discount.

PayPay’s merchant materials list transaction system fees of 1.60% for qualifying Light Plan merchants and 1.98% for other merchants using the service.
