> Roughrider Coin is available to more than 90 North Dakota banks and credit unions through Commercial Center. Transactions run on Solana.

Fiserv has launched its Digital Asset Platform with Roughrider Coin, a dollar-backed token deposit for transfers among North Dakota financial institutions, bringing a blockchain-based payment option to the state’s banks and credit unions.

Announced Oct. 1, the launch makes Roughrider Coin the platform’s first live use case. More than 90 North Dakota banks and credit unions will be able to access the token through Commercial Center, Fiserv’s commercial online banking system. Availability does not establish how many institutions are using it or how much money has moved.

VersaBank issues Roughrider Coin and provides custody services. Fireblocks supplies digital asset infrastructure and tokenization services, while transactions are processed on the Solana blockchain.

Roughrider Coin is permissioned, fully reserved and available only to financial institutions. Each token is backed one-to-one by U.S. dollars, and the system is intended for bank-to-bank transactions. The token is not for public use. Settlement is described as near-instant, but no measured settlement times or transaction costs have been disclosed.

Fiserv and the Bank of North Dakota announced the project on Oct. 8, 2025, with availability for North Dakota banks and credit unions planned for 2026. Earlier project descriptions mentioned U.S. Treasuries; the current description says each token is backed one-to-one by U.S. dollars. The reserve assets have not been specified.

Fiserv has not disclosed transaction counts or dollar volume for the live system.
