Coinbase disabled trading in IP on Oct. 5, 2026, during its conversion to DATA, with trading in the renamed token expected to begin Oct. 7 as Story shifts its focus toward AI training data.

Coinbase listed the migration period as Oct. 5–7, 2026, and asked users not to deposit or transfer IP during the process. The notice does not give exact start or end times.

The conversion follows a June rebrand: Story is becoming the DATA Foundation, Story Network is becoming DATA Network, and IP is converting to DATA on a one-to-one basis. Holders do not need to take action for the Foundation’s migration. That guidance applies to the Foundation’s migration and does not establish how every exchange or holder will handle the change.

Story began as an onchain system for registering and licensing intellectual property. The DATA Foundation has made AI training data its new focus, with DATA Network intended to support data sourcing, processing, verification and licensing.

The Foundation describes Trace as a public audit and search platform for assets registered on DATA Network, and Poseidon as a tool for processing raw data. As of June, Kled had more than 1.1 billion records being registered on DATA Network. The Foundation separately set a goal of 1.5 billion assets.

Coinbase expects DATA trading to begin Oct. 7, 2026; the exchange’s notice does not confirm that trading has resumed.
