> The Oct. 7 South Korea event follows a March memorandum with Samsung covering HBM4, DDR5 memory and potential foundry cooperation.

AMD CEO Lisa Su is scheduled to attend an AMD Gamer Day event in Seoul on Oct. 7, drawing attention to the company’s cooperation with Samsung on memory for artificial intelligence systems.

The event is set for Oct. 6 at 1 a.m. ET (05:00 UTC), with a media question-and-answer session scheduled for Oct. 7 at 2:30 a.m. ET (06:30 UTC).

The Seoul appearance follows a March 18 memorandum of understanding signed at Samsung’s semiconductor complex in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. The agreement covers primary HBM4 supply for AMD’s Instinct MI455X accelerator and advanced DRAM solutions for sixth-generation AMD EPYC processors, code-named “Venice.”

The companies also agreed to work on next-generation DDR5 memory for EPYC processors and AMD’s Helios rack-scale platform. The memorandum included discussions of a potential foundry partnership, but did not establish a completed manufacturing contract.

Samsung’s HBM4 uses a sixth-generation 10-nanometer-class DRAM process and a 4-nanometer logic base die. The memory is designed to reach speeds of up to 13 gigabits per second and bandwidth of up to 3.3 terabytes per second.

Samsung is AMD’s primary HBM3E partner for the Instinct MI350X and MI355X accelerators. Samsung and AMD have collaborated for nearly 20 years.

“Samsung and AMD share a commitment to advancing AI computing, and this agreement reflects the growing scope of our collaboration,” Young Hyun Jun, vice chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, said.

“Powering the next generation of AI infrastructure requires deep collaboration across the industry,” Su said.
