> Early-stage deals contracted as debt financing, public listings, infrastructure and acquisitions gained ground during the third quarter of 2026.

Crypto funding shifted toward regulated infrastructure, traditional finance connections and companies with revenue or licenses during the third quarter of 2026, even as Bitcoin (BTC) posted a 43% gain.

The review covered 3,515 funding rounds recorded between January 2024 and September 2026. The third-quarter sample contained 195 records, including two non-investment entries that were removed, leaving 193 deals.

### Early-stage funding weakens

Seed deals represented 15.0% of transactions with recorded funding stages, the lowest quarterly share since 2024. Seed deal volume fell 28% on a monthly-average basis, while total deal volume declined 13%.

Investment in Series A through C rounds increased 29% from the previous quarter, indicating that capital remained available for companies with more established operating histories even as early-stage activity contracted.

The analysis covered 112 Q3 transactions with disclosed amounts. Stage comparisons covered 143 transactions with recorded funding stages. Undisclosed deals were excluded from value calculations.

### Debt and listings gain ground

Four of 13 third-quarter transactions valued above $100 million involved public listings or debt financing. Monthly-average venture and strategic equity financing fell 24%, while debt financing increased from $70 million to $190 million. Listing proceeds rose from $80 million to $150 million. The comparisons include only disclosed amounts.

Ripple Prime closed a $275 million private placement of senior unsecured notes on Aug. 18. The proceeds are intended to support working capital and general corporate purposes within the regulated entity.

Large venture investors also became less active. Polychain, Pantera Capital, Hack VC, Paradigm and a16z led an average of 2.0 deals per month during the third quarter, down from 3.7 per month in the first half of 2026. YZi Labs participated in 14 deals, while Coinbase Ventures participated in 12.

### Infrastructure and acquisitions

Infrastructure accounted for 18.2% of disclosed third-quarter investment, compared with 8.1% in the first half of 2026. The increase was driven primarily by AI-related transactions, including Ionic Digital’s move toward AI data centers and Prime Intellect’s AI training infrastructure.

M&A activity remained significant, although totals varied between datasets. One count recorded 39 transactions in the first quarter, 36 in the second and 37 in the third. A broader count recorded 67 third-quarter crypto M&A transactions involving $2.2 billion in announced consideration. The different totals reflect different coverage and counting methods.

Circle agreed to acquire Singapore-based cross-border payments company Tazapay for consideration valued at $400 million, subject to closing adjustments and conditions. Securitize completed its business combination with Cantor Equity Partners II and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SECZ on July 2.

### Market strength outpaces corporate funding

Bitcoin recorded its strongest third-quarter performance since 2017, while U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $6.34 billion in net inflows. The market gains did not produce a comparable recovery in disclosed corporate investment.

Capital instead favored businesses with revenue, licensing, institutional distribution or a clearer path to cash flow. Payments, stablecoins, tokenized securities, institutional trading and AI-related infrastructure attracted more attention than standalone blockchain protocols.

The funding figures do not represent all market activity. The 193 third-quarter transactions included 112 with disclosed amounts, while stage analysis covered 143 transactions with recorded funding stages.
