> Micron Technology climbed in premarket trading as technology futures strengthened and analyst Gil Luria raised his 12-month price target to $3,000 from $2,100.

Micron Technology (MU) shares rose in premarket trading Oct. 9 as stronger technology futures, a higher analyst price target and an approaching change in buyback restrictions focused attention on the memory-chip maker.

Nasdaq futures rose 0.89%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.44%. The move followed D.A. Davidson’s decision on Oct. 7 to raise its 12-month price target for Micron to $3,000 from $2,100 while maintaining a Buy rating.

Analyst Gil Luria expects demand for memory used in artificial-intelligence systems to support Micron’s earnings over several years. He forecast that major customers, including Microsoft, Amazon and Google, could eventually sign five-year supply agreements covering more than half of Micron’s products.

Those agreements could make revenue more predictable and reduce exposure to traditional memory cycles. Micron supplies memory for servers that support large AI models, while its stock remains tied to customer spending and memory prices.

Capital returns are another focus as restrictions tied to U.S. chip funding are scheduled to expire Dec. 9, 2026, two years after Micron signed its final agreement under the CHIPS Act. [Micron’s planned increase in capital returns](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/26036>) is scheduled to begin that day, with buybacks expected to account for most of the additional distributions.

The change could affect how Micron uses excess cash, but the company’s future buybacks and profit margins remain exposed to shifts in memory demand and pricing. The semiconductor industry has also experienced sharp downturns in the past.
