> Michael Miebach said international payments can take days and have unclear fees. Mastercard is also expanding stablecoin infrastructure through token support and its BVNK acquisition.

Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach said cross-border payments are currently the clearest use case for stablecoins, highlighting slow settlement times and unclear fees in international transfers.

Miebach said cross-border payments can take days and leave customers uncertain about the fees involved. The comments place international transfers at the center of Mastercard’s stablecoin strategy.

Mastercard has identified business-to-business payments, remittances, payouts, settlement and treasury activity as potential applications for stablecoins. Its support includes USDC, Paxos-issued stablecoins and Ripple’s RLUSD across multiple blockchain networks.

The company has also completed its acquisition of [BVNK’s stablecoin and digital-asset infrastructure](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/24589>). BVNK supports the holding, movement, management and conversion of value across fiat and digital currencies, while connecting fiat currencies, stablecoins and tokenized deposits.

The acquisition expands Mastercard’s ability to support payments and settlement across traditional and digital financial systems. Cross-border transactions remain the main use case identified by the company’s chief executive.
