> Social media users described a stunt in which a Roadster appeared to clear a line of Tesla vehicles. Tesla has not confirmed a flight demonstration or flight capability.

Tesla unveiled its next-generation Roadster at a Texas test facility Thursday night, while social media claims of a brief lift-off did not confirm that the car can fly.

The event took place at 8:55 p.m. ET Thursday, Oct. 15, at a SpaceX test facility in Texas (00:55 UTC Oct. 16). Before the reveal, a tall, inverted-curved ramp prompted speculation that the car might launch off it, drive upside down or become airborne.

Social media users later described the Roadster clearing a line of Tesla vehicles during a stunt. Other posts claimed the second-generation Roadster's Rocket version could accelerate forward and upward, then rotate sideways.

Tesla has not confirmed that the Roadster can fly or that it will stage a formal flight demonstration. Earlier remarks from Musk had suggested rocket technology could enable flight, but those comments did not confirm the car's capability. The unveiling followed two consecutive years of declining Tesla vehicle sales.
