Disney has agreed to offer jobs to most of Character.AI’s workforce alongside its $20 million bid for selected assets in the startup’s bankruptcy sale.

The agreement covers offers to at least 60 employees, with estimated annual compensation of $60 million. Most employees who received offers have accepted them.

Disney’s $20 million bid is a stalking-horse bid, setting a starting point for the sale while allowing another buyer to submit a higher offer. It covers a permanent, nonexclusive license to selected intellectual property and other assets, rather than the entire platform.

Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, Oct. 12. The sale is expected to conclude between late November and early December. Disney has not committed to keep the service operating, leaving its future dependent on the sale process.
