> He described the gift as the first in a series, extending beyond an earlier effort aimed at children ages 11 to 17 in low-income areas.

Elon Musk said Monday, Oct. 19, that he plans to give one share of SpaceX stock to every child in the United States next year, a nationwide equity gift he described as the first in a series of similar initiatives.

The pledge has a wider stated reach than an earlier SpaceX-linked donation. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell donated 2 million shares in July for children ages 11 to 17 in low-income areas. Musk's plan covers every U.S. child, expanding the proposed recipient pool beyond a defined age range and income category.

The two efforts differ in scope: Shotwell's donation focused on a specified group, while Musk described a nationwide distribution. He also framed the planned gift as an opening move, with similar initiatives to follow.

The planned distribution is set for 2027. If carried out, it would place SpaceX equity with children nationwide, a broader group than the audience identified for the July donation.
