> The proposal includes about 140 kilometers of new pipeline. ENH aims to have the infrastructure ready in 2030 or 2031.

Mozambique’s state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) is seeking investors for a $250 million gas project that could create another supply route to South Africa as production from existing fields declines.

ENH is discussing the proposed infrastructure with Sasol and ROMPCO as potential investors. The plan includes facilities to receive and store liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Beira and Inhassoro, then convert it back into gas. About 140 kilometers of new pipeline would connect the infrastructure to the existing ROMPCO line, which carries Mozambican gas into South Africa.

ENH is targeting 2030 or 2031 for the new infrastructure. That is a development goal, rather than a fixed completion date.

“We want our infrastructure by 2030 or 2031, in step with Mozambique LNG, Rovuma LNG and Coral North,” ENH CEO and Chairman Rudêncio Morais said.

Mozambique granted a concession in Nov. 2025 for gas reception, storage, regasification and transport infrastructure at Beira and Inhassoro. Its 30-year term begins after approval of the development plan.

South African customers currently receive gas from Mozambique’s Pande and Temane fields through the cross-border pipeline. As production from those fields declines, Sasol has proposed a separate plan to supply customers with methane-rich gas from July 2028 through June 2030.

That interim plan still requires regulatory approval and an investment decision. ENH’s longer-term project remains under discussion with Sasol and ROMPCO as potential investors.
