MoneyGram launched a redesigned app and website Oct. 19, giving U.S. users a way to send money to app users in Colombia and El Salvador, where recipients can retain funds or collect cash.

Recipients can hold incoming money in the app or pick it up at MoneyGram locations on routes that offer cash collection. The platform combines international transfers with bill payments, mobile phone top-ups and cash access in one interface.

MoneyGram offers dollar-denominated balances in selected markets. Available payout methods depend on the route and include bank accounts, debit cards, digital wallets, retail locations and transfers to other app users. The updated app and site are live in supported markets and offer service in 40 languages.

The app launch incorporates an existing MoneyGram balance service in Colombia and El Salvador, where users can hold funds in USD Coin (USDC), a dollar-pegged stablecoin on the Stellar network. Crossmint supports that service. Separately, MoneyGram introduced its own MGUSD stablecoin in the U.S. market in June.
