> The agreements aim to steady DRAM and SSD deliveries, while PC component costs, including processors and graphics chips, are still projected to rise 10% to 20% next year.

Lenovo, HP and Dell have signed long-term memory-supply agreements for 2027, seeking steadier DRAM and solid-state drive deliveries as artificial intelligence infrastructure competes for components and PC costs remain elevated.

PC makers received only 70% to 80% of the DRAM and solid-state drive (SSD) volume they sought in the first half of 2026. Expanding investment in AI infrastructure has increased competition for memory chips and made deliveries harder to secure.

The agreements are intended to make memory supply more predictable as manufacturers plan production. They address availability, but do not guarantee lower prices for buyers.

DRAM and SSD prices are expected to keep rising in 2027. Including anticipated increases for processors and graphics chips, PC component costs are projected to climb 10% to 20% next year, a slower pace than in 2026. More predictable deliveries and slower cost growth may help manufacturers manage production and protect margins, but they do not ensure lower retail prices.

Higher PC prices have weighed on consumer demand. Global PC shipments fell 21% year over year in the third quarter of 2026 as average prices rose by double digits. Full-year global shipments are forecast to fall 7% in 2027.

Fewer shipments have eased some pressure on component supplies by reducing manufacturers’ purchasing needs. The improvement in availability reflects weaker demand as well as the new agreements, rather than a major expansion in supply. Rising prices and a slower economy are also expected to weigh on the consumer market’s recovery.

PC makers are putting more emphasis on business customers as companies adopt AI tools and replace employee devices. AI PCs run tasks directly on a desktop or laptop instead of relying on a cloud connection, and enterprise demand has remained steadier than consumer demand.

In the U.S., AI PCs accounted for 48.3% of shipments in the second quarter of 2026. Shipments of PCs priced above $1,500 rose 36.8% in the same quarter. Expanded AI PC product lines and shipments are expected to be a focus in 2027.
