> The planned purchase follows a Sept. 24 wallet attack that affected about $388 million in assets. The deal still needs regulatory approval.

Bitget plans to acquire licensed Thai exchange operator GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. through a local company, a step toward regulated operations in Thailand and a wider Southeast Asian presence.

The proposed buyer, BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd., is a company in which Bitget holds an interest. GMO Internet, Inc. disclosed the proposed sale to BTGT Management. The sale price has not been disclosed.

The target is listed among Thailand’s licensed digital asset exchange operators. Bitget plans to introduce its trading platform to Thai users if the acquisition is completed. The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approval and other conditions.

The plan follows a Sept. 24 attack on Bitget’s hot and warm wallets. Bitget says the incident affected about $388 million in assets and left customer account balances unchanged. The exchange completed a phased restoration of withdrawals on Oct. 2.

Completion is targeted for Oct. 31.
