Spotify began rolling out paid podcast memberships on Oct. 20 in 34 markets, including the United States, giving eligible creators a way to earn recurring revenue from listeners while keeping 90% of membership earnings.

Creators can set different prices and decide what subscribers receive. Options include early episode access, fewer ads, and bonus audio or video. Listeners can find membership offers on a podcast’s Spotify page. Subscriptions are purchased on the web, and members can access exclusive content after subscribing.

A show must be hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone and have at least three published episodes. It also needs at least 100 listeners or viewers and 100 hours of consumption on Spotify.

Spotify previewed the membership feature in May. The launch adds a payment option alongside the company’s podcast advertising, sponsorship and Partner Program offerings. Initial participants include “Making Sense with Sam Harris,” “Two Hot Takes” and YMH Studios, which is offering memberships for 12 shows. Spotify plans to add membership badges and welcome clips for fans.
