Photon Bridge has raised €10 million to develop laser sources for connections among artificial intelligence chips, targeting a data-center bottleneck as growing AI systems require processors to exchange more data.

The Eindhoven, Netherlands, company is developing lasers that supply light for optical connections inside data centers. The financing was co-led by the Amadeus APEX Technology Fund and 360 Capital. Existing investors Innovation Industries, Faber and Brabant Development Agency (BOM) also increased their investments.

As AI systems grow, moving data between processors can limit their performance. Optical connections carry that data as light, creating demand for laser sources closer to the chips.

Photon Bridge’s design combines light from multiple lower-power semiconductor lasers instead of relying on fewer, more powerful units. The laser sources are designed for large-scale manufacturing, while the devices themselves remain in development.

The company plans to use the funding for product development and customer qualification. It expects initial samples in 2027, with preparations for volume production beginning in 2028.
