> The company reported $14.6 billion in third-quarter revenue and $4.4 billion in net income, reversing a loss a year earlier.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., known as SpaceX (SPCX), reported a sharp rise in third-quarter revenue and a return to profit as CEO Elon Musk raised a possible combination with Tesla on an earnings call Oct. 20.

Revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $14.6 billion, up 161% from a year earlier. Net income reached $4.4 billion, compared with a $1.05 billion loss in the same quarter last year. Operating income was $2.8 billion.

SpaceX’s Super Intelligence business generated $7.56 billion in revenue, compared with $813 million a year earlier, making it the company’s largest business unit by revenue. Starlink, its satellite internet business, also contributed recurring revenue.

Musk raised the possibility of a SpaceX-Tesla combination during the call. The boards of both companies formed committees to discuss a potential deal; the companies have not announced merger terms.

Tesla is scheduled to report third-quarter results after the market closes Wednesday, Oct. 21.
