> The 26-country rollout includes Free users and Go subscribers. More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns on the platform.

OpenAI is taking ChatGPT ads to 26 additional countries, bringing the service to 89 and expanding an advertising business alongside subscriptions, enterprise contracts and API usage.

Announced Oct. 21, the rollout covers Free users and Go subscribers in countries including Argentina, Peru, Nigeria, South Africa and Ukraine. OpenAI says ads will be labeled and displayed apart from ChatGPT’s replies, without changing its answers.

The business reached [a $1 billion annualized revenue pace](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/33842>) by Aug. 31. An annualized pace expresses revenue at a yearly rate; it does not mean the company had already recorded that amount over a completed 12-month period. OpenAI says the platform has hosted campaigns from more than 100,000 advertisers.

ChatGPT ads were available in over 40 countries in August and had crossed 60 by Oct. 15. The latest addition brings the total to 89. OpenAI first tested advertising in the United States on Feb. 9, for adults eligible to use Free and Go.

On May 5, OpenAI began rolling out a beta Ads Manager for self-service campaign purchases. It added click-based bidding, which charges an advertiser when someone clicks an ad, and tools to measure campaigns. The company plans more ad formats, measurement features and buying options.

Eligibility depends on account type. Free users and Go subscribers in the newly added countries will start to see ads.

Advertising is one part of OpenAI’s business mix, which also includes consumer subscriptions, enterprise contracts and usage-based APIs. Digital ads are a major revenue stream for companies such as Google and Meta, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT advertising product is still in an early stage. Its first U.S. test began about eight months before this expansion.

The rollout comes as rival Anthropic takes a different approach: its first Super Bowl campaign criticized OpenAI’s ad push, and the company pledged to keep Claude ad-free. OpenAI is also exploring ways for businesses to interact natively with ChatGPT users.
