> Net income reached $24.246 million in the third quarter, while nonperforming assets rose to $166 million, or 1.75% of total assets.

Eagle Bancorp, the holding company for Bethesda-based EagleBank, posted $24.246 million in third-quarter profit as its credit-loss provision dropped, even as nonperforming assets increased at Sept. 30.

Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30, 2026, was $24.246 million, compared with $6.918 million for the three months ended June 30. Diluted earnings per share were $0.79 in the third quarter, up from $0.23 in the previous quarter.

The provision for credit losses fell to $2.809 million from $21.448 million. Net charge-offs also declined, to $4.2 million from $47.9 million. Both comparisons are with the second quarter.

Net interest income was $61.309 million, while noninterest income was $9.564 million. Together, the two income lines totaled $70.873 million, down from $73.109 million in the second quarter. Net interest margin rose to 2.60% from 2.52% over the same comparison.

Nonperforming assets stood at $166 million, or 1.75% of total assets, at Sept. 30. At June 30, they were $113.1 million, or 1.17% of total assets. The increase came as the provision for credit losses and net charge-offs both fell during the quarter.

Eagle Bancorp recorded $73.7 million in nonperforming-loan inflows during the third quarter; 76% came from one loan migration. President and CEO Steve Curley said, “We also recognize that the increase in nonperforming assets, driven primarily by one significant relationship, means our asset quality work is not complete.”

Eagle Bancorp is the parent company of EagleBank, which operates in suburban Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. The company declared a cash dividend of $0.01 per share, payable Nov. 17, 2026, to shareholders of record Nov. 6.
