Cross River Bank has opened Ripple USD (RLUSD) payment access to some fintech customers in the United States, giving the XRP Ledger a banking use alongside custody, fund shares and AI payments.

Fintech customers can use the service through the bank’s core platform, the same platform used for conventional bank transfers, with access through a single API integration. The integration supports transactions on XRPL and is available in a limited number of states.

Standard Chartered’s Dubai International Financial Centre branch provides institutional custody for RLUSD issued on the ledger. Separately, a proposed arrangement with Ripple and LMAX Group would make RLUSD eligible collateral for agreed LMAX products and solutions. The collateral’s value would be mirrored to LMAX, while the underlying RLUSD would remain in bank custody and would not move to the trading venue. The plan depends on final documentation, successful testing, applicable laws and regulations, internal approvals and readiness in each jurisdiction.

In July, Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share class of the Aviva Investors US Dollar (USD) Liquidity Fund on XRPL. Investors who meet the eligibility requirements can hold the digital shares in wallets. The fund keeps its existing investment objective, and its assets remain with its custodian. The tokenized share class represents the fund shares digitally on the ledger; it does not change the stated objective or custody of the fund’s assets.

Ripple’s XRPL AI Starter Kit supports X402 payments, allowing software to pay for API access and computing services in XRP or RLUSD. This adds software payments to the ledger’s financial uses, which include bank payment access, custody and tokenized fund shares.

XRP has separate functions on XRPL: it pays transaction fees, supports account reserve requirements and can act as an intermediary in some token trades. Those roles do not mean RLUSD services or the tokenized fund shares use XRP as their settlement asset.
