> Strategy’s 848,517 BTC reserve was valued $5.11 billion above its acquisition cost on an Oct. 21 mark; Metaplanet’s Sept. 30 reference price was below its average cost.

Bitcoin (BTC) trading above $80,000 placed Strategy’s reserve above its acquisition cost at an Oct. 21 valuation, while Metaplanet’s Sept. 30 reference price remained below its average cost.

At Oct. 18, Strategy’s holdings totaled 848,517 BTC; its average acquisition price was $75,446 per BTC, with cumulative spending of $64.017 billion. Its reserve was valued at $69.127 billion using market data updated at 2:06 p.m. ET (18:06 UTC) on Oct. 21. The $5.110 billion difference is an unrealized gain on the coins; it does not represent net income or account for liabilities and other costs.

A separate Oct. 19 update listed Strategy’s purchase of 267 BTC for $22 million, at an average $82,900 per coin. That purchase followed the Oct. 18 holdings count used in the reserve comparison.

Metaplanet had 44,000 BTC as of Sept. 30. Its aggregate cost basis of ¥684.452 billion works out to about $4.35 billion, or roughly $98,900 per BTC, using the filing’s ¥157.35-per-dollar exchange rate. The company’s Sept. 30 reference price was $83,576.82 per BTC at 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC), below its average cost.

During the third quarter, Metaplanet sold 10,000 BTC and bought 11,000, adding a net 1,000 BTC. The company characterized the transactions as a demonstration of its ability to convert Bitcoin into cash and said they were not intended to change its holding policy.

The comparison spans different dates and valuation marks, so it is not a synchronized view of corporate Bitcoin holdings. Corporate buying also slowed during the quarter, with [public companies’ Bitcoin additions falling 94%](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/35535>).
