> Family Plan members have seven days after a notice to verify they live with the plan manager. Missing the window requires an individual plan and blocks entry to another Family or Duo plan for 12 months.

Spotify is requiring Family Plan members to verify that they live with the plan manager by scanning a QR code, with missed checks triggering a 12-month restriction on joining another shared plan.

Members have seven days after receiving a notice to complete verification. The plan manager displays a QR code on a phone, and each member scans it with their own device. Anyone who misses the window must move to an individual plan and wait 12 months before joining another Family or Duo plan.

During a third-quarter investor call, co-CEO Alex Norström described the update as a “routine improvement” to Spotify’s existing verification methods. He said the Family Plan had been part of Spotify’s business for about 12 or 13 years and represented a significant portion of its subscriber base.

Norström said Spotify would keep refining its checks as people find ways around them. The seven-day period begins when a member receives the notice.
