> The exchange has confirmed product development. The proposed futures would track headline and core U.S. consumer inflation.

Kalshi has confirmed it is developing exchange-traded futures tied to U.S. inflation, with an unconfirmed December 2026 target that would add another way to trade consumer-price changes.

The company has not confirmed when trading will begin. The proposed product would track the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and a core measure. Core CPI excludes food and energy, while headline CPI includes both.

Kalshi already offers CPI event contracts tied to whether an index crosses a specified threshold. The proposed futures would offer dated exposure to inflation measures. Inflation swaps, by contrast, are privately negotiated over-the-counter derivatives.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange launched CPI futures in February 2004. The contracts averaged 98 contracts per day that month.

“There’s no exchange that trades this and they want to be the inflation exchange,” said Michael Ashton, managing principal of Enduring Investments LLC.

Mark Spindel, chief investment officer of Potomac River Capital LLC, said, “We’ve all been stung by surprising developments in inflation.”

Kalshi has not confirmed a launch date for the proposed futures.
