> The company projected April-December operating profit of 174.7 billion yen and shipments of 434.2 billion yen. July-September standalone shipments rose 60% year over year.

Japan’s DISCO projected April-December revenue to rise 28.2% year over year to 389.5 billion yen, and separately reported a quarterly record in standalone shipments of its semiconductor processing equipment.

The company issued the outlook alongside its first-half results on Oct. 22. It forecast operating profit of 174.7 billion yen for April through December, up 38.4% from a year earlier, and shipments of 434.2 billion yen.

For the six months ended Sept. 30, consolidated revenue increased 32.1% to 257.058 billion yen. Operating profit rose 47.9% to 116.639 billion yen, producing a 45.4% operating margin. First-half shipments totaled 284.584 billion yen, up 37.2% year over year.

DISCO’s standalone shipments for July through September were 123.9 billion yen, 60% higher than a year earlier and 6.4% above the prior quarter. The total set a quarterly record.

The company recognizes equipment revenue after customer acceptance and reports shipments separately as a closer indicator of market trends. Shipment figures therefore track equipment deliveries, while recognized revenue reflects customer acceptance.

DISCO linked demand to data-center investment for generative artificial intelligence, citing strong needs for advanced logic chips and high-bandwidth memory, or HBM. It said shipments leaned toward higher-value equipment. Shipments of blades and grinding wheels also stayed high, while customer equipment utilization remained high.

Subtracting first-half results from the April-December outlook implies October-December revenue of about 132.4 billion yen, roughly 21% above the same quarter a year earlier. The implied operating profit is about 58.1 billion yen, for a 43.8% margin, below the first-half margin of 45.4%.

The outlook also implies October-December shipments of about 149.6 billion yen, roughly 5% above the first-half quarterly average of about 142.3 billion yen. DISCO expects to file its half-year report Thursday, Oct. 29.
