SpaceX's talks to access as many as 80,000 cell sites have analysts weighing whether the count includes smaller coverage installations alongside conventional towers, a distinction that affects how the scale of its wireless ambitions is understood.

Michael Ng of Goldman Sachs said cell sites can include rooftops, billboards, water tanks, distributed antenna systems and small cells, as well as towers. Michael Rollins of Citi outlined a scenario involving 80,000 or more large sites on shared structures, while allowing that some locations could instead be small cells or other forms of coverage.

SpaceX agreed earlier this month to buy low-band 800 MHz spectrum from Grain Management. The frequency can penetrate windows and walls and is part of the company's [U.S. wireless push](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/34100>).

Jeffrey Wlodarczak of Pivotal Research Group said the 800 MHz layer could carry most call and text traffic, while fixed Starlink households could offload much of their in-home traffic to Starlink Wi-Fi.

AT&T CEO John Stankey said on the company's Oct. 21 earnings call that reaching the performance levels customers expect would take years and significant investment.
