> Anchorpoint had earlier indicated retail access could arrive as early as the end of 2026. HSBC launched RedCoin for PayMe users on the same day.

Anchorpoint Financial CEO Dominic Maffei declined Friday, Oct. 23, to confirm a retail launch date for its Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, while rival HSBC launched its own token through PayMe.

Anchorpoint had earlier indicated that retail access to [HKDAP](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/people/24029>) could arrive as early as the end of 2026. Maffei did not reaffirm that timing at a Friday press conference.

“We believe it’s important to build the market out in a long-term, sustainable manner,” Maffei said. He added that rushing a launch “does not make sense.”

Anchorpoint released an institutional stablecoin product in August. HSBC launched RedCoin, its own Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, for PayMe users on Friday. The app has 3.3 million users.

Anchorpoint Financial is a joint venture formed by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), HKT and Animoca Brands. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority licensed Anchorpoint as one of Hong Kong’s two initial stablecoin issuers on April 10, 2026.

Anchorpoint plans to reach consumers through authorized distributors. Standard Chartered was the first bank to receive authorization to distribute HKDAP.
