> The command also reported more than 3,000 commercial-vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. support over six months.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said U.S. forces helped Gulf partners export more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil since summer, reporting a separate milestone for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Oct. 25 announcement came during a visit to the strait by Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. Cooper flew over the waterway in a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook to observe the operating environment.

CENTCOM said more than 3,000 commercial vessels transited the strait with U.S. forces’ support over the previous six months. It also reported that more than 95% of ships navigating the waterway in recent months sailed through safely.

“We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Gulf partners and the shipping industry,” Cooper said. CENTCOM said U.S. forces had cleared international shipping lanes of mines it attributed to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The command gave the figures as two measures of its work: crude exports assisted since summer and shipping traffic supported over six months.
