Microsoft announced a time-limited voluntary exit offer Oct. 26 for eligible employees on participating teams in four countries. About 60,000 workers could qualify.

The offer covers employees at internal level 70 and below in participating teams in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. It includes financial support and career-planning resources. The estimated 60,000 represents a potential pool of about 27% of Microsoft's 223,000 full-time employees as of June 30, 2026, not an expected number of departures.

Microsoft Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Amy Coleman said participation varies by organization: “Some organizations are providing the Voluntary Exit Offer, and some are not.”

Microsoft also offered a voluntary retirement program earlier in 2026. More than 30% of eligible employees participated in that program. The announcement gave no expected acceptance count, individual package amounts, total cost or employee decision deadline. Eligible employees will receive offer details by email.
