The RealReal has tightened bot defenses after Meta’s Muse added 10 listings to a cart again each time a 20-minute hold expired, making it harder for agents to log in, add items and check out.

The updated defenses make those steps much more difficult for all agents. Agents can still surface listings, and Muse can direct users to product pages.

In a test, reporter Mia Sato instructed Muse to add 10 new listings from a favorite brand to a cart, then add them again each time a 20-minute hold expired. The listings remained unavailable to other shoppers for hours. The test was not intended as a purchase.

On Oct. 8, The RealReal announced that it was extending Ask TRR to its 45 million members after a pilot, with the tool built on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise.
