> The wallet converts digital assets into baht before purchases. Sandbox rules require identity verification and allow testing for up to 18 months from approval.

Waan Exchange Co., Ltd. (Waanx) and Wipay Co., Ltd. announced Monday, Oct. 26, that their WORPT wallet is available to international tourists visiting Thailand. It supports deposits of Tether (USDT) and USDC, which users convert into baht before making purchases through Thai QR PromptPay.

After conversion, shoppers use baht for their purchases, and merchants receive baht through the existing payment system. The service does not use digital assets directly to pay merchants.

Waanx, which operates a digital-asset exchange and brokerage, worked with e-money provider Wipay to develop WORPT. Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission approved Waanx to participate in Tourist DigiPay, a regulatory sandbox for testing digital-asset conversion into baht for tourists’ spending through e-money services.

Sandbox participants may run tests for as long as 18 months after receiving approval. The sandbox rules require identity verification and separation of Tourist DigiPay services from investment trading.

“Historically, cryptocurrencies have largely been viewed as assets for holding and trading,” said Janeboon Roonnaphaya, a WORPT co-founder.

The companies plan to introduce a physical Visa prepaid card in mid-November 2026, followed by a virtual card in early 2027.
