> Net interest margin reached 4.53%, while community banking loans grew 9.6% from a year earlier.

C&F Financial Corporation (CFFI), the holding company for C&F Bank, posted third-quarter net income of $8.257 million, up 16.1% year over year, as its net interest margin widened.

Basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) were each $2.55 for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with $2.18 in the year-earlier quarter. Adjusted basic and diluted EPS, the company’s non-GAAP measure, also came to $2.55.

For the first nine months of 2026, reported EPS was $7.26 and adjusted EPS was $7.03. The adjusted figure excluded an $8.3 million pretax gain from the sale of an equity interest in Bearing Insurance Group and a $7.1 million pretax loss from a securities portfolio restructuring.

C&F Financial’s net interest margin on a fully taxable-equivalent basis was 4.53%, up from 4.24% in the third quarter of 2025 and 4.41% in the second quarter of 2026. The year-over-year increase was 0.29 percentage point, and the quarterly increase was 0.12 point.

Community banking loans increased $148.1 million, or 9.6%, from Sept. 30, 2025. They were also $102.8 million higher than at Dec. 31, 2025, equivalent to 8.6% annualized growth. C&F Financial reports community banking, mortgage banking and consumer finance operations.

“Growth in community banking loans and a stronger net interest margin drove solid results,” said Tom Cherry, C&F Financial’s president and chief executive officer. The company issued its earnings release at 4:05 p.m. ET (20:05 UTC) on Monday, Oct. 26.
