> The acquisition would pair Classiq’s quantum algorithm software with Intel’s silicon-based qubit hardware. It is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

Intel announced Oct. 27 that it plans to acquire Classiq, an Israel-based quantum computing startup. The deal would combine Classiq’s quantum algorithm software platform with Intel’s silicon-based qubit hardware as the chipmaker pursues a quantum business spanning both layers.

Classiq’s platform focuses on software for quantum algorithms, while Intel brings hardware based on silicon qubits. Pairing the two would add a software component to Intel’s quantum effort and put an algorithm platform alongside its hardware capabilities.

Intel’s stated goal is to build a full-stack quantum-computing business, with software and hardware in the same operation. The acquisition would address Intel’s quantum software gap by adding Classiq’s platform to its business. The plan centers on connecting silicon-based quantum hardware with software for quantum algorithms.

The purchase has not closed. Intel expects the transaction to be completed in the first half of 2027, the next milestone for the planned combination of the companies’ quantum capabilities.
