> The plan includes a $1.5 million skilled-trades pathway with Taylor Independent School District and workforce funding through 2029.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor announced a $22.84 million package for Central Texas on Oct. 15, combining community funding with job training and school programs around its Austin and Taylor operations.

Community programs account for $10.7 million. That includes $10 million for 14 local nonprofits through Spark! and $700,000 in annual philanthropic giving. Workforce-development partners are allocated another $10.64 million for 2026 through 2029: $2.66 million in 2026, followed by a three-year extension worth $7.98 million.

A separate $1.5 million commitment will establish a skilled-trades pathway with Taylor Independent School District. Training will cover electricians, welders, pipefitters and HVAC professionals, connecting the package to technical occupations needed in the region.

Samsung also plans to expand its paid high-school internship program with Taylor ISD. Enrollment is scheduled to rise from 24 students to 30 in summer 2027. The company hosted 120 students through the program over the previous five summers and employs more than 4,500 people across its Austin and Taylor campuses.

Samsung’s Austin and Taylor campuses supported an estimated 28,746 jobs and $2.03 billion in salaries in 2025, with $10.94 billion in economic output. The estimates include indirect and induced effects, as well as construction in Taylor.

The package pairs support for local organizations with investment in skills and education. “Investing in technology and investing in people go hand in hand,” said Bonyoung Koo, president of Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

Paul Cho said, “putting up capital is not the same as putting down roots.”
