> August LTL tons per day fell 0.9%, while shipments per day dropped 2.4% and weight per shipment increased 1.7%.

Old Dominion Freight Line is scheduled to release third-quarter 2026 results before U.S. markets open Wednesday, Oct. 28, as August data showed revenue per day up 12.4% year over year alongside lower freight tonnage.

Less-than-truckload (LTL) tons per day fell 0.9% in August from a year earlier. Shipments per day declined 2.4%, while weight per shipment increased 1.7%. For the quarter-to-date period through August, LTL revenue per hundredweight rose 11.3% year over year, or 4.8% excluding fuel surcharges.

President and CEO Marty Freeman said, “Old Dominion produced solid revenue growth for July and August, with underlying demand trends remaining relatively consistent as the quarter has progressed.”

The August figures follow a second quarter in which revenue reached $1.554 billion, up 10.4% from a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share increased 32.3% to $1.68, while the operating ratio was 70.1%, compared with 74.6% a year earlier. LTL tons per day fell 4.1% in the quarter.

Higher LTL revenue per hundredweight was the primary contributor to second-quarter revenue growth, offsetting lower daily tonnage. That measure rose 15.2% year over year in Q2, or 5.5% excluding fuel surcharges, compared with the quarter-to-date increase through August.

Old Dominion plans to discuss its results and outlook on a call at 10 a.m. ET (14:00 UTC) Wednesday, Oct. 28.
