> Underlying profit rose 83% to £2.367 billion as remediation charges fell, while impairment costs increased.

Lloyds Banking Group’s statutory pretax profit nearly doubled in the third quarter, reaching £2.332 billion for the three months ended Sept. 30. The British lender’s results, released Thursday, Oct. 29, also showed higher underlying profit and lower remediation charges.

Profit before tax was up 99% from £1.174 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Underlying profit rose 83% to £2.367 billion. Remediation charges dropped to £22 million from £875 million, while the underlying impairment charge climbed 78% to £313 million from £176 million.

Earlier coverage of [Lloyds and NatWest ahead of the U.K. budget](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/regulation/33461>) noted expectations that Lloyds’ adjusted third-quarter pretax profit would fall below consensus. The current results include statutory pretax profit and underlying profit figures.

Lloyds said it remained on track to meet its 2026 guidance. The targets include underlying net interest income above £14.9 billion, a cost-to-income ratio below 50% and return on tangible equity above 16%. Group Chief Executive Charlie Nunn said, “We are on track to meet our 2026 guidance.”

For U.S. investors, Lloyds’ New York Stock Exchange-listed sponsored American depositary receipt (ADR) trades under LYG. Its London-listed ordinary shares trade under LLOY as a separate security.
