> The companies differ on whether total deliveries will reach 150 TWh or exceed it. A separate $1.5 billion loan supports the contract.

Trafigura will supply Germany’s state-owned SEFE Securing Energy for Europe with 30 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas annually starting Nov. 1, extending the companies’ supply relationship under a new five-year contract.

The companies agree on the yearly delivery rate but give different totals for the full term. SEFE lists 150 TWh, while Trafigura describes the volume as more than 150 TWh. Their announcements do not explain the difference. Most of the gas will come from Trafigura’s global portfolio.

The agreement follows a four-year contract that ends Oct. 31 and supplied about 23 TWh a year. SEFE, which is owned by Germany’s federal government, supplies more than 200 TWh of gas and power annually. SEFE Chief Commercial Officer Frédéric Barnaud said the partnership would broaden the company’s sourcing options.

Trafigura arranged a separate $1.5 billion loan with a five-year term to support the supply contract. Germany’s federal government guarantees part of the financing under its Untied Loan Guarantee program through Euler Hermes Aktiengesellschaft. Nine banks joined the syndicate. KfW IPEX-Bank serves as facility agent and export credit agency coordinator and agent. The loan amount is not the gas contract’s disclosed value; the companies did not publish a contract price.

German gas storage stood at 152.41 TWh, or 61.61% full, in a midnight ET reading Oct. 29 (4 a.m. UTC; 6 a.m. CEST). Germany’s gas supply was stable on Oct. 28, and the risk of tight supply was low. Pipeline imports, storage, liquefied natural gas imports, infrastructure and demand all factor into Germany’s supply security.
