> Gross and normalized operating margins improved. Newell also posted an $81 million net loss and narrowed its full-year normalized earnings outlook.

Newell Brands’ third-quarter net sales rose 3.7% year over year to $1.873 billion, while a $101 million impairment charge weighed on reported operating margin.

Sales for the three months ended Sept. 30, 2026, increased from $1.806 billion a year earlier. Core sales grew 3.3%, with favorable foreign exchange also supporting the result. The quarter marked Newell’s second consecutive period of year-over-year sales growth. Growth reached U.S. and international markets, four of the company’s six businesses and seven of its 10 largest brands.

Operating income fell to $27 million from $119 million in the year-ago quarter. Reported operating margin dropped to 1.4% from 6.6% after Newell recorded a $101 million noncash impairment charge tied to an indefinite-lived tradename. The company did not identify the tradename.

Other margin measures increased. Gross margin rose to 34.7% from 34.1%, and normalized gross margin increased to 35.2% from 34.5%. Normalized operating income reached $184 million, up from $162 million, while normalized operating margin widened to 9.8% from 8.9%.

Newell recorded a net loss of $81 million, or 19 cents per diluted share, compared with $21 million in net income, or 5 cents per diluted share, a year earlier. Normalized net income rose to $86 million from $70 million. Normalized diluted earnings per share increased to 20 cents from 17 cents.

The company raised its full-year 2026 net-sales growth outlook to 2% to 3%, from 1% to 2%. Its core-sales growth outlook increased to 1% to 2%, from flat to 1%. Newell maintained its normalized operating margin guidance at 10% to 10.4% and narrowed its normalized earnings-per-share outlook to 74 cents to 76 cents from 73 cents to 77 cents.

For the fourth quarter, Newell expects net sales and core sales to grow 1% to 3%. It forecast normalized earnings per share of 17 cents to 19 cents.
