> Most customers still order through DoorDash’s app as the company studies agent use cases and potential advertising.

DoorDash CEO Tony Xu said third-party AI agents have handled “maybe several hundred orders in total,” giving the delivery company an early count of activity through a new ordering channel it is evaluating.

On the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Xu said most customers still use DoorDash’s app to place orders. He described agent-based ordering as a rapidly changing area and said DoorDash wants to learn more about agentic use cases while building working relationships with outside developers. Advertising inside third-party agents could also become an opportunity for the company, he said.

The figure adds a new data point to concerns about [AI-driven disintermediation for consumer platforms](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/30819>), as agents may become another way for people to find and order products.

DoorDash is developing ordering tools of its own. Ask DoorDash, launched in June, lets users place orders with prompts and photos. The company introduced a command-line agent in July and a text-based ordering service in September. A separate connector supports corporate orders placed through other chatbots.

Retailers have taken different approaches to outside agents. Amazon has blocked personal agents from its services, while Walmart has welcomed them as a way to attract business from competitors.
