CEO Kirk Tanner made the comments on the company’s Oct. 29 earnings call. “Now we need consumers to show up. We need them, the last few days are really critical,” he said.

CFO Dave Hulays said consumers were more cautious about inflation and cited gas prices and interest rates as strains on households. He said shoppers were making more deliberate choices across mass retailers, e-commerce and warehouse clubs, describing the weakness as “more of a channel and trip problem, not as much a category issue.”

Tanner said Hershey had shipped more Halloween products than a year earlier and had displays in stores. The company’s consumer research showed Halloween participation intent in line with 2025.

The U.S. average for regular gasoline was $4.20 a gallon on Oct. 30.

Halloween falls Saturday, Oct. 31.
