> The Oct. 31 discussion covered AI’s potential effects on industries and business decisions over the next decade.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met about 50 Samsung executives in South Korea on Oct. 31 to discuss expanded cooperation in memory chips and AI infrastructure as data center demand adds pressure to global supplies.

Attendees represented Samsung’s electronics, finance and biotechnology businesses. The discussion also covered how AI could affect industries, corporate decisions and business opportunities over the next decade.

Memory-chip supplies are tight, and prices are rising as data center operators increase demand. Five major global AI infrastructure participants plan to invest more than $3 trillion over the coming years. Memory chips account for about one-third of data center spending.

The meeting builds on previously announced cooperation that includes supplying memory chips for OpenAI’s Stargate infrastructure project and developing AI data centers, including floating facilities at sea.
