Tencent and Visa announced Thursday, Oct. 29, that they had recently signed a memorandum of understanding spanning cross-border payments, agentic commerce, enterprise AI and support for businesses expanding globally.

For travelers entering and leaving China, the companies plan to facilitate cross-border payments using Tencent’s TenPay Global platform and Visa Pay. They also plan to deepen cross-border remittance cooperation through Visa Direct, with transfers going into the Weixin Pay ecosystem.

The AI-agent payment work remains exploratory. The companies will examine how Visa Intelligent Commerce could help AI agents find, select and purchase goods or services for users.

Visa’s related work includes an Oct. 20 [pilot with BILL and Billtrust](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/36124>) that tests AI agents making business invoice payments approved by buyers through supplier portals.
