Stablecoin issuer Tether has increased its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings by about 50,000 coins to roughly 150,000 BTC, CEO Paolo Ardoino said Tuesday, expanding the company's direct exposure to the cryptocurrency.

The increase is measured against an earlier position of about 100,000 BTC.

The new total is about 50% higher than that prior level.
